Dr. Rick Marshall (Will Ferrell) is a disgraced paleontologist whose radical theories on time warps have ruined his career. Alongside idealistic research assistant Holly Cantrell (Anna Friel) and survivalist gift-shop owner Will Stanton (Danny McBride), Marshall tests his "tachyon amplifier."
