Ensure antenna wires and ribbon cables sit flat in their designated channels so they do not get pinched.
Remove the single Phillips-head screw securing the service door (usually located near the battery bay). Slide the service door toward the battery bay to unlock it. Lift the door off the chassis. Disconnect the touchpad cable and power button cable from the motherboard.
Clean off the old, hardened crusty thermal paste from the CPU die and copper heatsink plate using a lint-free microfiber cloth dipped in Isopropyl alcohol.
Loosen the four captive screws securing the CPU heatsink in a cross-pattern (following the numbered sequence stamped on the metal).
