Remington Rand 1911a1 Markings -

Note: There is a gap between 916,406 and 1,696,000—this range was assigned to Ithaca Gun Co.

: A single letter "P" is stamped near the magazine release, indicating successful proof firing. A matching "P" is typically stamped on the top of the slide, just ahead of the rear sight. Barrel Markings

These are the rarest. The marking is approximately 1-inch long and consists of two lines: REMINGTON RAND INC. over SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A.

A large "P" on the slide and barrel indicates the pistol was proof-fired (loaded with a high-pressure cartridge) at the factory. Look for:

Remington Rand did not manufacture its own barrels. Instead, they sourced them from subcontractors. A correct Remington Rand 1911A1 should feature one of two main barrel types: High Standard Barrels (Most Common)
